28/5/2006 - 100% Finishing Record on Red Dragon
D&C Rallying achieved 100% finish record on the recent Red Dragon Rally, with all three cars finishing the event unscathed.
Llandysul rally driver Carwyn Harries and his Bronwydd co-driver Gareth Roberts took overall honours in the 1400 rally at the wheel of their Suzuki Ignis. The pair made a last minute approach to D&C proprietor Dorian Rees to run the car for them. The result a true credit to the team.
Julian Reynolds and Raglan co-driver Paul Spooner used the event to get some extra mileage under their belt in the Tesco 99 Octane supported Subaru Impreza. However, the Narbeth rally driver showed no signs of fatigue, setting five fastest GpN times out of the six special stages which made up the competitive miles of the rally. The pair also finished seventh in the overall standing.
"We did the rally just to get back into it and get some extra mileage in GpN to boost our British Rally Championship(BRC) campaign and basically had a very good day in the car with no problems or mishaps to report."
The third car in the D&C fleet was Dorian's 2004 championship winning Subaru Impreza in the hands of Rhys Lloyd. The Bronwydd driver making the huge leap up from his regular MG ZR up to the four wheel drive turbocharged machine. He and co-driver Owain Davies from Whitland easing their way through the early stages of the rally, having only completed a minor test in their new mount. The pair were happy with their progress throughout the day and with their result.
"It was our first rally in the car and we did what we set out to do. The car is really good and surprising how quick it is. The MG feels very quick over the stages with the noises it makes, but the Subaru is far quieter and only when you arrive into the braking points that you get an idea of how much faster your going."
Both Reynolds and Lloyd will contest the Severn Valley National & Clubmans Rallies respectively on Saturday 3rd June. The two drivers contesting the Builth Wells rallies for totally different reasons.
"We are still keen to get as much mileage in the car and hopefully we can do the best we can in the class and overall. The rally also uses forests which are part of the Wales Rally GB, which is the final round of the BRC and another good reason to do the rally." explained Reynolds.
"Learning from our mistakes on the Red Dragon, we should be a bit quicker from the start and take another step forward. There is still a lot to learn about the car, so it will take a little time." commented Lloyd.
The event gets underway on Saturday morning from the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells at 08.00 before returning to the finish at around 17.30.
