15/1/2006 - Rees Establishes Rally Car Hire Business
2004 British Production Rally Champion Dorian Rees, has taken a back seat as it were and has now started to establish a rally car hire business. While 2005 had started with a win on the Wyedean Rally, the remainder of the year was spent getting his Subaru Impreza ready to let others do battle behind the wheel.
First to sample the Subaru was 2005 British Trials & Rally Drivers Association Silver Star Champion, James Belton. He and co-driver Eurig Evans had already sealed the title prior to the Plains Rally back in September, so James decided he would sample a four wheel drive car. While James was more than happy with his new mount for the day, by his own admission, the step from two to four wheel drive would have been easier with a test prior to the actual rally.
The next man into unknown teritory was Grant Rees, the young Welshman using the car on the Cambrian Rally as an eighteenth birthday present. 2005 was also Grant's first year in rallying having made the step from rallycross into the sport. Prior to the Cambrian, Grant had only contested in the BTRDA 1400 series and fuelled his enthusiasm for the drive.
"The car is great to drive and I would love to have another go. It is well prepared and so reliable."
2006 has also started well, Julian Reynolds hired the car to contest the Red Kite Rally, based in Mid Wales. Julian won the event last year in his Ford Focus World Rally Car and repeated the win again in Dorian's hire car.
"I drove one of these cars in America, so knew what to expect. Dorian and the boys obviously know what their doing and have a very slick operation. We had no problems with the car all day."
Julian will contest the British Rally Championship in 2006 with the Stobart VK team, but is keen to get some more events under his belt.
"Although I am contesting the BRC, I hope to use the car again on some more events this year. I don't think the car is that far off the current Group N cars and will certainly make an excellent National Championship car."
Not sitting back on the laurels of the win, Dorian has already added to the hire fleet, by purchasing an ex-Alistair McRae Subaru Impreza N9 and both cars are available for hire throughout 2006 for one off events or complete championships.
